Biography : Tsakane, hails from Soweto township in South Africa. At the age of 14, Tsakane was playing in the under 18 division of the Soweto basketball league. He was a standout athlete and Michael Finley of Miles and Associates committed to helping him make it overseas to showcase his talent.MAI put Tsakane in their development program for 2 years and in 2000 Tsakane became the first of many South Africans to attend and graduate from St. Anne’s Belfield High School.Tsakane was MAI’s first program graduate to be sent to a US high school for three years instead of the typical two year period. Tsakane was young when he left South Africa but he persevered and graduated from St Anne’s in May 2003.

Tsakane’s pursuit of excellence and wonderful attitude opened doors for other students to attend St. Anne’s. Tsakane was a great student and as a result of his efforts, he received a full basketball scholarship to Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. He became the first of many of our students that graduated from Hamilton College. He received a degree in communications in May 2007. Tsakane has recently returned to South Africa and works as the head of business development for Safesky Africa.

Tsakane plays on South Africa’s national team and also acts as a volunteer working with previously disadvantaged youth in Johannesburg.
