On Saturday the 24th of November, 2012 AYDF held a graduation at the Mamelodi Community Hall for the participants of the “Are You Game” life skills and basketball league.  Heavy rain could not stop 250 students, 30 parents, and 15 AYDF staff members from coming together early on the Saturday morning to celebrate the achievements of the Mamelodi Primary, and High School youth.  Parents were treated to exhibition basketball games, and tunes from a local DJ prior to the graduation ceremony.

After certificates were handed out AYDF project Manager Cameron Schuster gave a speech acknowledging the hard work and dedication of these students on the basketball court, and in the classroom.  He directly thanked the parents who attended the ceremony acknowledging that AYDF only seeks to fortify and build upon the structures of discipline that they implement from home.  The end result of AYDF working in the schools and in the athletic arena is to keep as many youth focused on the right path to success keeping them away from the streets and the negative elements of society that are so readily available to the youth.

The graduation ended with the trophy ceremony for the champions of the “Are You Game” league.  F.F. Ribeiro primary were the champions of the primary school league, and Ndima Primary were named the runners up.  J. Kekana High School were the High School Champs, and Mamelodi High school the runners up.  The youth were ecstatic to receive the trophies and medals in front of their parents and peers.  All students left with a healthy snack and the certificate that displayed the life skills modules they had completed.  Community Project Manager Njabulo Mazibuko praised his team of volunteers for pulling off the event despite the weather, and encouraged them to approach the world AIDS day event the following week with an even greater zeal for success.  AYDF thanks all those who attended and participated.
